NARROW BOAT BINGLEY

Here are some photos of Ex Grand Union Big Woolwich butty boat BINGLEY as purchased
off British Waterways in 1972 and restored back to working trim by myself.

ARIVAL BACK AT TIPTON.
This was the sorry state that BINGLEY was in when I purchased her from BWB in1972. After the demise of the Willow Wren Canal Carrying Company, BWB recalled all their craft and put them into Braunston reservoir to await disposal for at this time they didn't want anything to do with canal carrying. As can be seen on the top right photo, the waterline on the hull shows BINGLEY had spent a considerable length of time sitting on the bottom, half full of water due to the 4inch hole in her hull. The lower photos show before/after shots of the hull, after much wire brushing and painting. A coupleof weeks later I spent 2 weeks on Tardibigge dock carrying out extensive welding repairs to her bottoms and backend.

This group of photos shows Bingley with the old cabin removed back to the oak cabin frames which were in good condition except for one which I took to a local timber yard and used as a template to replace. The lower shots show the cabin skin being replaced with tongue & grooved Kerowin, tar paper and Beech faced exterior ply.
